15 CIAC boys defenders to know for the 2026 season

As we’ve written about before in our positional watch list series, a vast majority of the top CIAC boys players a year ago were seniors.

That means a new group of Connecticut stars is on the way in 2026. Exciting, yes. But hard to predict? Also, yes.

The defenders are especially unclear headed into the fall season. Several of the state’s top teams have major questions at the back — not necessarily because of a lack of talent, but because of a lack of established talent. “I’ve got players, so I’m not worried,” one coach said. “But what four do I go with?”

Still, there are some defenders who will be no-doubt contributors in 2026. Those are the players we’re here to identify. As with all of our positional watch list stories, this is not a definitive ranking of the 15 best defenders in the CIAC. Rather, it’s a list of impact players on teams likely to make noise across Connecticut; the players are organized by graduating class and listed in alphabetical order.
