It’s no secret that the roster construction process for Division 1 men’s soccer programs has dramatically altered in recent years.
Key factors for this shift have been extra eligibility that stemmed from the COVID-19 pandemic and the booming transfer portal, as hundreds of players across the country move to new schools/programs every year.
It’s all helped to create a landscape where many college coaches prefer older, more experienced players, viewing that mind set as the best method to compete for conference championships and NCAA Tournament berths.
Simply put, the college game has gotten older.
